Building my own 72-hour kit

This has been a year of storms and more storms. Almost a year ago, thousands of people perished in a natural disaster of epic proportions : the Asian tsunami. Many were caught unprepared and were left homeless and without shelter. Earlier this year we saw that even a mighty first world economy was vulnerable : witness the aftermath of Katrina.

I've started building my own emergency preparedness supplies, bit by bit. My medical and shelter are covered, and I have more flashlights than I know what to do with. Last weekend I did the final bit of work for the year : preparing and storing enough food and water for my family of 2 adults and 2 children. I've written up my adventures in building my own 72-hour kit for Survival Today.

I would encourage you to start your own - it's neither difficult nor expensive.
